Burnhope Seat - Durham
See Alan's comments on this walk below. Burnhope Seat, Durham – 28th Aug With Mickle Fell done and dusted it seems like the perfect opportunity to try and fit one more climb in for the day. A swift drive, past the High Cup waterfall, and the challenge is to bag the highest County Top for County Durham – Burnhope Seat. The road actually provides great access for the climb, as the B6277 road between Alston and Middleton-in-Teesdale passes within 2 km of the 747 metre summit. The hill can also be climbed from Weardale as part of high-level circuit of Burnhope Reservoir. Alan parks up on the road and takes a speedy walk to the top. Navigation from this access point is made really easy by the fact that there’s a ski-lift going up the hill, which is working when the snow comes. Following the lift to as far as it goes Alan then gets to the trig point, and another stone piled point, that looks almost higher than the trig, before heading back down. He does the entire round trip in less than an hour. Alan says: “Some of the snow can get that bad up here that the fences separating the moorland are just covered. There’s no wonder there’s a ski facility! People often forget we have these in England.” Powered by Lifestream.
