Great Wood, Suffolk – Mon 30th Aug

The highest point in Suffolk can be found on the Newmarket ridge and is similar to the highest points in Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. Despite quite steep sides this ridge pattern sees the tops of the hills staying very flat and low. Great Wood Hill is where the highest point stands at 128 metres. Obviously people don’t come to this area of the country for mountain activity, but again because of the flat nature of the county it makes for great walking trails through some stunning areas of natural wetland beauty.

An aerial is located at the highest point and the otherwise flat terrain is made more interesting by the fact that there is an old World War II airbase, or what is left of it, located here.
