Helvellyn – Westmoreland. Saturday 4th September

So, the final summit and it wasn’t all just about flying around. Alan actually met Richard Leafe, the Chief Executive of the Lake District National Park, on top of the summit. Richard had climbed the peak, and Alan kindly gave him a lift back down in the helicopter.

Helvellyn stands at 950 metres high. If you are feeling adventurous then you could take the route favoured by climbers along Striding Edge. It’s a classic scrambling route, but you’ll need to make sure you have the right equipment, as the path along the edge becomes very narrow.
