Mickle Fell - Yorkshire
See Alan's comments on this walk below. Mickle Fell, Yorkshire -28th Aug Arriving in Yorkshire and the weather seems to be making its own rules! One minute the sky is blue and the next a blizzard of rain makes visibility difficult. Access to Mickle Fell isn’t great as it’s surrounded by a Ministry of Defence firing range. As a result, access to the fell is limited. A boggy moor also goes some distance to testing the stamina of any walker, as it means a long hike to actually get to it from any direction. It can be climbed from the Eden Valley to the west, or from Teesdale to the east. Alan gets to meet two of the guys from Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team, before climbing the fell. Conditions aren’t too bad on foot considering it’s pelting it down for Alan’s round trip to the 788 metre summit and back. It’s the bog and the distance you have to walk to get to Mickle Fell that really put the time on this climb. Alan says: “Mickle Fell was one of the tops that I was really excited about doing. I’m often in the area anyway and it’s a few years since I’ve gone up. It was actually a great surprise to meet a couple of other walkers up there! I wasn’t expecting to see anyone.
